Practice Schedule
*Practices are held Monday - Friday of each week* (practice times are subject to change, as we see what works the best for each age group, depending on the amount of participants).
8:00 am - 8:30 am Group 1 ages 6 and under
8:30 am - 9:00 am Group 2 ages 6 and under
9:00 am - 9:30 am Group 3 ages 6 and under
9:30 am - 10:00 am Group 4 ages 6 and under
8:00 am - 9:00 am 7-8 year olds
9:00 am - 10:00 am 9-14 year olds
- If you feel your child would benefit from another practicing with a different age group (e.g. "aging up"), the coaches would be happy to discuss this with the parents, but the coaches will ultimately determine placement in age groups.
- There will be no morning practice on the day of a swim meet.
- Practices are not mandatory, but we strongly suggest you go to as many as possible. Your child will benefit and get out of swimming what they put into it!
- Should weather present a safety issue for the coaches and swimmers, an e-mail will be sent out to everyone prior to each age groups practice start time.
- Practices will be held regardless of outside temperature. It is up to the parent’s discretion on whether or not they want their child to attend. The pool is heated. However, if there is a situation where the coaching staff feels that colder temperatures or inclement weather will put the swimmers at risk, we will cancel practice. You will be notified via email or text!
Definition of Strokes
Freestyle
May swim any stroke the swimmer desires. Face down position, alternating overhand arm pulls and a continuous flutter kick. At finish swimmer must touch the end of the pool.
Backstroke
Swimmer must start in the water. Swimmer remains on the back and alternates raising each arm over the head and uses an up-and-down flutter kick. At finish some part of swimmer must touch the wall while remaining on their back.
Butterfly
Swimming stroke in which the arms are brought forward above the water and the legs kick in unison in an up-and-down (dolphin) motion. At finish a swimmer must two hand touch the end of the pool.
Breaststroke
Swimming on one's front, in which the arms are pushed forward and then swept back in a circular movement, while the legs are tucked in toward the body and then kicked out in a corresponding movement (frog kick). At finish a swimmer must two hand touch the end of the pool.
I.M. (Individual Medley)
Must be swum in the order of butterfly, back, breast, free; 25 yards of each stroke. All individual stroke rules apply for each stroke in the swim order. Any form of flip turn or somersault from the backstroke to breaststroke is not allowed.
